Manatee County / City of Bradenton. Two systems here: Manatee County water is Lake Manatee Reservoir blended with groundwater, disinfected with chloramine; City of Bradenton water comes from the Bill Evers Reservoir and ran 550 mg/L TDS and 288 mg/L sulfate in its 2025 report. 6–16 grains hard at the tap (county-reported range). The right standard
for PFAS.
Half the industry quotes the wrong standard for PFAS. NSF/ANSI 401 covers emerging compounds like pharmaceuticals; NSF/ANSI 53 is the health-contaminant standard that includes PFOA/PFOS. The 8500 carries both — and Sarasota County’s Carlton plant tested PFOA at 3.8 ppt against a 4.0 limit in 2025. Compliant, and close to the line.
Manatee tested clean for PFAS in the last federal round. We’ll tell you that at the test, too — the RO is still the answer for taste, lead and the things that never had a smell.

Do I need the 8500 or the 7000?
If PFAS or lead is the worry, the 8500 — it’s certified to NSF/ANSI 53. If nitrates are the worry (common on wells), the 7000 is certified for nitrate/nitrite reduction. If it’s taste, either one. We’ll say which at the test.
Does RO waste water?
Yes — an RO sends rinse water to the drain as part of how it works. It’s a drinking-water system, not a whole-house one, so the volume is small. We’ll show you the numbers.
Can I check the certification myself?
Yes. wqa.org, find products, search Puronics, find Micromax 8500. The standards are listed next to it.
Does the Micromax 8500 really reduce PFAS?
Yes — it’s independently certified under NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA/PFOS (the “forever chemicals”), along with VOCs. That certification is what separates it from an ordinary under-sink filter, and you can look the model up on wqa.org.
How is it different from a cheap RO from a store?
Certification and reduction range. The 8500 is certified across NSF/ANSI 58, 53, 401 and 42 to reduce a long, specific list — lead, arsenic, PFAS, VOCs, certain pharmaceutical and personal-care compounds, TDS and chlorine taste — and we install it and service it. A boxed store unit rarely carries that breadth of certification.
What exactly does it reduce or remove?
Per its listings: dissolved metals and solids such as arsenic, lead, chromium, selenium, radium, fluoride and TDS (NSF/ANSI 58); PFOA/PFOS and VOCs (NSF/ANSI 53); certain pharmaceutical and personal-care compounds (NSF/ANSI 401); and chlorine taste and odor (NSF/ANSI 42). Each one is an independent, verifiable certification — and the ledger above shows which is which.
How often do the filters need changing?
On a schedule we go over at install, based on your water and use — and Platinum Care members get it done for them, so the system keeps performing to its certified spec.

Straight talk: we say “reduce or remove” on purpose. On most tests after an install we don’t see any of those residuals at all — but a certification measures reduction to a standard under test conditions, not a promise of zero on every drop, so we don’t over-promise. Your water, pressure and maintenance schedule all matter, and we set the filter-change schedule with you.
