My story

Water found me the hard way. When I bought my first house, I had no idea what hard water could do — until my brand-new washing machine died in eight weeks, came back under warranty, and died again eight months later. This time I was told the hard water was destroying it. Around then my 40-gallon water heater had so much sediment in it that I was getting about three minutes of hot water in the shower. I had already spent more than five years cleaning mostly commercial pools right here in Bradenton and Sarasota — acids, neutralizers, chlorination, the Stenner pumps we still use today — so water chemistry was not new to me. But seeing what untreated water quietly costs a home is what lit the fire.

So I started Hydrology — while I was still going through EMT and fire school. I served as a firefighter in Manatee County — first as a reserve and later full-time — while I kept building the water business on the side and went through paramedic school. Taking care of people was the throughline the whole way. Then demand took off — the business grew faster than I could run it on the side — so I made the call to leave the fire department and give Hydrology everything, which also freed me up to coach youth sports and start giving back to the community that raised me.

Why my pool years matter for your water

Here is the part that makes us different on the tough jobs. Those years on commercial pools were years of doing exactly the chemistry a hard well needs — balancing acids and neutralizers, running chlorination, and dialing in Stenner metering pumps and contact time. So when a well has heavy iron, sulfur, or bacteria that the box-unit companies cannot touch, it is not new territory for me — it is what I did for a living. We are basically building a small, carefully controlled swimming pool for your water, giving the chlorine the time it needs to work, and then filtering all of it back out so you are not drinking pool water. It is the kind of problem that rewards someone who actually understands the chemistry.

How we do the work

It was on the installs — especially cutting out old galvanized pipe — that it all came together. You pull a section and see how little water can actually get through. I dug into the research, like the Battelle study on what hard water does to plumbing and appliances, and everything I had read I was now seeing with my own eyes. That is why I am in filtration. I learned installs from a licensed plumber and hold that standard on every job: we use ProPress connections, not push-on SharkBite fittings, and we bring in a licensed plumber for permitted work. I take my time and do it right — because the difference between a system that lasts and one that does not is usually in the details nobody sees.

Off the clock

I am a lifelong competitive athlete — I still play basketball, coach youth hoops, and golf when I can, and I am working on starting a nonprofit for youth sports. Taking care of this community is not a marketing line for me; it is just how I am wired. When you call Hydrology, you are not reaching a call center — you are reaching your neighbor.

Why “Hydrology”?

Hydrology — hydro- plus -logy — literally means the study of water. If you have ever sat through medical terminology, which I did training as a firefighter and EMT, you know the pattern: cardiology, neurology, hydrology. It was not a marketing exercise. It is just the accurate word for what we do, and it is the only thing we do.

We are based in Bradenton and serve homeowners across Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough and Pinellas — Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, Palmetto, Ellenton, Sarasota, Venice, North Port, Ruskin, Apollo Beach and the communities around them.

Here is why that matters more than it sounds. A large part of our week is spent servicing equipment other companies installed, including brands whose dealers have left this area entirely. When the company that sold a system is gone, the warranty that came with it is paper. We price our work so we will still be here to service yours. That is not a slogan — it is the reason the business is built the way it is.
