Our install · a real job, not stock
“Forever chemicals” are now federally regulated, but utilities have years to comply — so what reaches your tap today is largely up to you. Here’s the local picture, and the one system in our lineup independently certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA and PFOS reduction.

The basics
What are PFAS, and why the concern?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a family of thousands of man-made chemicals used since the 1950s in non-stick coatings, stain- and water-resistant products, and firefighting foam. They are nicknamed “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment or the body, and the EPA links long-term exposure to certain PFAS with health concerns. Two of them — PFOA and PFOS — are now federally regulated in drinking water.
The rules
Are PFAS regulated in Florida drinking water?
Yes. In April 2024 the EPA set the first-ever national drinking water limits for PFAS, capping PFOA and PFOS at 4.0 parts per trillion (ppt) each. Those limits are still in force in 2026.
What changed is the timeline. The compliance deadline was extended from 2029 to April 2031, and in 2026 the EPA moved to rescind the separate limits it had proposed for several other PFAS (PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA/“GenX,” and a hazard-index mixture). Local data
Is there PFAS in Bradenton and Suncoast water?
It depends entirely on which utility serves you, and the numbers are public. Here is what the local systems have reported:
| System | PFOA / PFOS result | vs. 4.0 ppt limit |
|---|---|---|
| Manatee County (Bradenton) | All 29 PFAS below minimum reporting levels (2024 UCMR5) | None detected |
| Sarasota County (Carlton plant) | PFOA 3.8 ppt (2025 sampling) | Under the limit — but ~95% of it |
| Charlotte County | PFOA and PFOS reported above 4.0 ppt in 2023 monitoring | Above (pre-rule sampling) |
If you’re on Manatee County water, that’s genuinely reassuring — nothing was detected. In Sarasota, the county is compliant but sitting near the line, which is exactly the situation where a homeowner might choose to filter. You can look up your exact utility in the EPA’s UCMR 5 Data Finder, and if you’re on a private well, no utility tests it for you at all — that’s on the homeowner.
The fix
Does reverse osmosis remove PFAS?
Yes. Reverse osmosis (RO) is one of the methods the EPA recognizes for reducing PFOA and PFOS, and independent testing backs it up. RO pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane whose pores are far smaller than a PFAS molecule, so the chemicals are rejected to the drain instead of ending up in your glass. It’s the most reliable point-of-use option for PFAS at the kitchen tap.
The proof
Which Hydrology system is certified to reduce PFAS?
The Puronics Micromax 8500 reverse osmosis system is certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA and PFOS reduction — an independent, third-party certification for those specific compounds, not a marketing claim. That distinction matters: many systems reduce “contaminants” in general, but far fewer carry a compound-specific PFAS certification, and to our knowledge no other local installer advertises one. Credentials
Our certifications — and what they actually mean
Credentials in this industry get thrown around loosely, so here is precisely what we hold and what each one certifies:
WQA & FWQA membership. We are members of the Water Quality Association and the Florida Water Quality Association — the national and state trade bodies that set training and ethics standards for water-treatment professionals.
WQA Gold Seal equipment. The systems we install carry WQA Gold Seal certification, meaning the product was independently tested to NSF/ANSI 42 (aesthetic effects like chlorine and taste), NSF/ANSI 44 (softener performance), and NSF/ANSI 372 (lead-free materials). You can look any Gold Seal product up in the WQA’s public certification database.
NSF/ANSI 53 for PFAS. On top of that, the Micromax 8500 is certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA/PFOS reduction — the health-effects standard, specific to those compounds.

How do I find out what’s actually in my water?
Book a free in-home water test. We measure hardness, chlorine, pH and TDS at your tap and go over your utility’s PFAS results with you; a PFAS number for your own tap takes a certified lab. Then we recommend only what your water calls for — whether that’s a certified RO system for PFAS, a softener for hardness, or nothing at all. No obligation, no pressure.
