Softener installed wrong?
We fix bad installs.
We regularly find systems plumbed backwards. Two recent ones: a big-box store softener with the shutoff on the wrong side and the brine tank set up wrong, and a carbon tank piped after the softener instead of before it. Both were still running. Neither was doing its job.

What we find
The mistakes we fix
most often.
Every one of these was still “working” when we got there.
What we do
Fix it once,
test it after.
We look at the whole install, re-plumb what is wrong, program the valve for your hardness and household size, and test the water before we leave so you can see it working. If a part is worn out, we show you before we replace it.

“I cannot say enough amazing things about this company and system! We had three companies come out and Hydrology stood out on every level.”
“We’ve had our system now a month and absolutely love it. My wife is a hair beautician with over 30 years of experience and definitely can tell the difference with the water.”
“Wow, I can definitely feel a difference in my hair, skin, and when I wash my hands. I knew getting a water softener was a priority and I’m so glad I decided to go with Hydrology.”

Install questions
How to tell if your
system was installed right.
A few things you can check yourself.
How can I tell if my softener is plumbed backwards?
Look for the arrow or the in and out markings on the valve. Water from the house supply should go into the inlet. Resin beads in faucet screens or toilet tanks are another sign the flow is reversed.
Which tank should come first, carbon or the softener?
Carbon first. Chlorine and chloramine wear on softener resin, so the carbon tank should treat the water before it reaches the softener. That is why our own systems put the carbon ahead of the resin.
Can you fix a system you did not sell?
Yes. We re-plumb it, set the bypass and shutoffs where you can use them, set up the brine tank correctly and program the valve for your water. Then we test the water so you can see the difference.
Is it cheaper to fix or replace?
If the equipment is sound, fixing the plumbing is usually the better deal. If it is undersized or worn out, we will show you the numbers and let you decide.
