What to Expect After Your New Water System Is Installed

Congratulations on your new system. Over the first few days a new water system “settles in,” and a couple of things are completely normal — here’s what to expect so nothing catches you off guard.

The first water may look dark or even black

A brand-new whole-home system is packed with fresh filter media — things like catalytic carbon. The very first water through it can carry fine carbon dust, so it may look dark or black for a moment. It’s harmless, and it clears fast.

First few days

Your drinking water may taste a little off at first

On a new reverse osmosis or drinking-water system, fresh carbon filters and new fittings can give the water a slightly funny taste for the first couple of days. It’s normal — not a sign that anything is wrong. Running water through the lines for a day or two flushes it out before you rely on it for drinking.

Peace of mind

Glance at the connections for the first couple of days

Any new plumbing connection is worth a quick look over the first few days — and any time the system is later serviced or moved. A dry paper towel under the fittings is an easy way to spot a slow drip early. If you ever see moisture, give us a call and we’ll take care of it.
