What’s Really
in Palmetto’s Tap Water? A Free Test Will Tell You.
Palmetto homes are served by Manatee County Utilities, blending Lake Manatee reservoir water with Floridan aquifer groundwater and disinfecting it with chloramine. Lime softening at the plant takes the edge off hardness, but it’s common for Palmetto water to still test hard once it reaches the house, and chloramine has a way of leaving a chemical smell that lime softening doesn’t touch.

Why Guessing at Your Water Isn’t Worth It
A county-wide average doesn’t tell you what’s coming out of your specific fixtures — pipe age, distance from the treatment plant, and your own plumbing all shift the numbers. Our free in-home test checks hardness, chlorine and chloramine, TDS, and pH directly at your tap, using a technician who walks you through what each reading means in plain terms. There’s no sales pitch built into the visit and no obligation to buy anything afterward — it’s simply information about your household’s water.
Palmetto has been a strong area for us — we’ve installed 60+ systems in homes around the city, which means we’ve tested a lot of Palmetto water and have a good sense of what typically shows up here.
What we test for in Palmetto, and why
City of Palmetto publishes an annual report, and it is a starting point rather than an answer. It tells you what left the plant, disinfected with not published, at conflicting figures — we measure it. It does not tell you what arrives at your tap after the distribution system and your own plumbing have had a turn.
Palmetto buys finished water and the supplier is not named in any public document we could reach. No PFAS was detected in its UCMR5 testing.
So we test at your kitchen sink: hardness, so the softener is sized to a real number rather than a county average; the disinfectant residual, because it decides which carbon and how much; iron and pH where they matter; and anything the report leaves out. Several utilities on our map do not publish hardness at all, and none of them test for strontium — those are gaps we fill rather than gloss over. The test is free and it takes about twenty minutes.
Locally: because Palmetto’s published figures conflict, the free test is not a formality here. It is the whole first step, and it takes about twenty minutes at your kitchen sink.
Figures are from City of Palmetto’s own published water quality report. Where a utility does not publish something, we say so rather than estimate it. The water test is free and carries no obligation.
