What does a UV water purification system do?
A UV system uses ultraviolet light to inactivate bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms as water passes through — it’s commonly added on well water or wherever microbiological contamination is a concern. It works alongside filtration and softening rather than replacing them.
Do I need UV purification?
UV is typically added for private well water or situations where microorganisms are a concern; municipal water is already disinfected. The only way to know if it’s right for your home is a water test. Hydrology tests first, then recommends whether UV fits your setup.
Does UV change the taste or smell of my water?
No — UV adds no chemicals and doesn’t change the taste, smell, or mineral content of your water. It only targets microorganisms. For taste and odor, that’s where carbon filtration comes in.
