Chlorine Injection Systems
When a well tests positive for bacteria, iron bacteria or very high iron and sulfur, a metered chlorine-injection system disinfects and oxidizes at the same time — then a carbon filter removes the chlorine so your water is clean and taste-free.

Some wells have more than an air-injection filter can handle — a positive bacteria test, iron bacteria (the reddish slime that clogs plumbing), or iron and sulfur levels high enough to overwhelm an oxidizing filter. For those, chlorine injection is the proven fix.
The system meters a small, precise amount of chlorine into the water as it’s pumped from the well. Water then sits briefly in a contact tank, which gives the chlorine time to disinfect any bacteria and oxidize dissolved iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide into filterable particles. A backwashing filter captures the oxidized metals, and a carbon stage reduces or removes the remaining chlorine — so what reaches your home is clean, clear and taste-free.
Chlorine injection is a full treatment train, and it’s sized to your well after testing for bacteria, iron, manganese and sulfide. If hardness or drinking-water polish is also a goal, we add a softener and reverse osmosis downstream. We’ll never over-build — the free water test tells us whether you need chlorine injection or whether a simpler air-injection filter will do.
When chlorine injection is the right call — and what it asks of you
We do not reach for this first. Air injection is simpler and has nothing to buy, so when the water allows it, that is what goes in. Chlorine injection is what you use when the water genuinely demands it: a positive bacteria test, iron bacteria and its slime, iron or sulfide past what an air pocket can oxidize, or a well that keeps coming back.
The honest trade is that it is a real system with real upkeep. You keep solution in the tank. The pump and the injection point need checking. And the carbon filter at the end is what stands between you and chlorine at the tap, so it is not optional and it does not last forever. None of that is difficult — but anyone selling you injection as set-and-forget has not explained it to you.
The spec nobody mentions: contact time
Chlorine does not work instantly. It needs time in contact with the water to disinfect and to oxidize iron and sulfide fully, and that time is what the contact tank buys. Size the tank too small for your flow rate and the water reaches the filter before the reaction has finished — so you get incomplete oxidation, chlorine slipping downstream, and a system that looks like it is failing when it was simply never given room to work.
The same logic explains why shocking a well once does not hold. A shock treats what is in the well that day. It does nothing about what comes back next week. If bacteria are established, the fix is continuous, which is exactly what injection is for.
One distinction we will always keep straight: iron and sulfur bacteria are nuisance organisms — they stain, smell, slime and wreck equipment. Coliform and E. coli are a different matter and a different conversation, and we will not blur the two to sell you a bigger system. See the order treatment has to go in.
