That hardness spots your glasses, scales your water heater, films your skin and quietly shortens the life of every water-using appliance. A properly sized softener reduces it at the source, for the whole house.

Nokomis sits on Sarasota County water, and the county is unusually honest about something most utilities gloss over: your tap is a blend. Roughly 28% comes from the Carlton plant, 59% from the Peace River and 13% from Manatee County. The county softens Carlton output to about 7.0–7.3 grains — but that figure describes barely a quarter of the supply.
So two houses a few miles apart genuinely do not get the same water, and a countywide hardness number would be a guess dressed up as a fact. The county disinfects with chloramine at 3.5 ppm, so carbon goes ahead of the softener either way.

Every install starts with a free in-home water test, so your system is sized to your actual water — never a one-size-fits-all box. Your own local Hydrology tech tests, recommends and installs it, start to finish, with clean, careful plumbing. If a job needs a permit, we bring in the licensed plumber we work with.

Nokomis sits on the line between county water and private wells, so the first thing we do here is establish which you are on. Puronics systems come certified as finished units with a manufacturer warranty; our own builds use Clack valves you can get parts for anywhere. Custom builds are not system-certified and we will not pretend otherwise.

How hard is Nokomis water?
Sarasota County softens Carlton plant output to about 120–125 ppm — 7.0 to 7.3 grains per gallon. But Carlton is only 28% of the supply; the rest is Peace River water and Manatee County water. What reaches your tap depends on where you are, so we test rather than quote a countywide average.
Does Nokomis water have chloramine in it?
Yes, at 3.5 ppm with a range of 0.6 to 5.2, against a federal maximum of 4.0. Catalytic carbon goes ahead of the softener to handle it — and to protect the resin, since chlorine in any form shortens resin life.
Why can my neighbour’s water be different to mine?
Because Sarasota County water is a blend of three sources — roughly 28% Carlton, 59% Peace River, 13% Manatee — and the proportions that reach a given tap depend on where you are in the distribution system. The county is unusually straight about this. It is also why we will not quote you a countywide hardness number and call it your number.
