How Much Does a Water Softener Cost in Florida?

Aug 14, 2026

Our prices, stated plainly: the Hydrology Essentials softener starts at $2,995. A whole-home softener with catalytic carbon runs $3,500–$4,500. Whole-home plus reverse osmosis drinking water runs $3,500–$5,500. Well systems depend on what the test finds. Puronics equipment is call for pricing — not a sales tactic, just the manufacturer’s advertised-price policy, which is a condition of carrying the line.

What each price gets you

Hydrology Essentials

from $2,995

Our value-built softener. One tank holding 1 cu ft of softening resin, 0.25 cu ft of catalytic carbon and 0.25 cu ft of activated carbon, on a metered Clack valve, with a brine tank beside it.

Whole-home softener + catalytic carbon

$3,500–$4,500

More carbon and more contact time for chloramine water, sized for larger homes and heavier use.

Whole-home + reverse osmosis

$3,500–$5,500

The softener and carbon for the house, plus an under-sink reverse osmosis system for drinking and cooking water.

Well water

varies by test

Iron, sulfur, tannins or salt intrusion each change what goes on the wall. We price it after we know what’s in the water.

What moves the price

Hardness and household size. A softener is sized to your hardness in grains and how much water the house uses. Manatee County’s 2025 report puts hardness at 106 to 279 mg/L — about 6 to 16 grains per gallon, depending on the blend that day. A family of five at 16 grains needs more capacity than a couple at 6. Too small and it regenerates constantly; too big and the resin can channel.

What the utility disinfects with. Manatee County uses chloramine, and the City of Bradenton lists chlorine and chloramines. Chlorine in any form wears out softener resin over time, so on that water we put catalytic carbon ahead of the softener, and it needs enough volume for contact time. On City of Sarasota water, which uses free chlorine year-round, ordinary activated carbon is enough, which keeps the cost down. More in chlorine vs chloramine.

Where it goes. A garage with a plumbing loop, a drain and an outlet nearby is the simplest install. No loop, a long run to a drain, or an outdoor install adds time and material. We tie into any plumbing, including older galvanized pipe.

Well water. Iron, hydrogen sulfide and sediment each need their own stage, and brackish wells may need whole-house reverse osmosis. That’s why well systems are priced by the test, not a chart.

Why we don’t list Puronics prices

Puronics sets a minimum advertised price policy for its dealers. Following it is a condition of carrying the line. We’re not hiding the number to get in the door; call and we’ll tell you.

What you’re paying for with certified equipment is that the claims have been checked by someone other than the seller. Puronics equipment carries the WQA Gold Seal, and you can look up any model yourself on the Water Quality Association’s listings. The whole-home Puronics Defender 30C and Hydronex iGen C are certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 44 and 372. The manufacturer’s warranty is registered in your name and comes in the box; the details are on our warranty and Platinum Care page.

What it costs to run

The purchase price isn’t the whole cost. Plan for:

  • Salt. How much depends on your hardness and water use. A metered valve regenerates based on the water you actually used, not on a timer.
  • Water and a little electricity for each regeneration.
  • Media over time. Carbon is the part that gets used up on chloramine water; resin lasts much longer when carbon is in front of it.
  • Reverse osmosis filters, if you have RO, changed on the manufacturer’s schedule.

Platinum Care, our own service plan, covers salt delivery, maintenance, a free service call, priority scheduling and full-system annual maintenance, and we handle warranty claims for you.

When the cheaper answer is the right one

Sometimes the best price is a smaller system, or nothing.

  • If your test shows soft water, you don’t need a softener.
  • On City of Bradenton water, the city doesn’t publish a hardness number, and its 2025 report shows TDS of 550 mg/L and sulfate of 288 mg/L. A softener doesn’t lower either. If taste is the complaint, reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink may be all you need. See Bradenton city water and does a softener lower TDS?
  • If all you care about is drinking water, an under-sink RO system alone costs far less than a whole-home setup.
  • Whole-house reverse osmosis on city water is almost never worth it. EPA says a typical under-sink RO unit sends five gallons or more to the drain for every gallon it makes, and WaterSense-labeled units are held to 2.3 gallons or less. Multiply that across a whole house and it only makes sense for brackish or salty wells.

Common questions

How much does a water softener cost in Florida?

From us, the Hydrology Essentials softener starts at $2,995. A whole-home softener with catalytic carbon runs $3,500 to $4,500, and whole-home plus reverse osmosis runs $3,500 to $5,500, depending on sizing and model. Well systems depend on the test.

Why don’t you list Puronics prices?

Puronics sets a minimum advertised price policy, and following it is a condition of carrying the line. It isn’t a sales tactic. Call and we’ll give you the price.

What’s in the Hydrology Essentials softener?

One tank holding 1 cubic foot of softening resin, 0.25 cubic feet of catalytic carbon and 0.25 cubic feet of activated carbon, on a metered Clack valve. It’s our value-built system.

Do I need catalytic carbon with my softener?

On chloramine water such as Manatee County’s, yes, because chlorine in any form wears out softener resin over time. On City of Sarasota water, which uses free chlorine year-round, ordinary activated carbon is enough.

Do I need whole-house reverse osmosis?

On city water, almost never. Reverse osmosis sends water to the drain, so the economical setup is a softener for the house and reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. Whole-house reverse osmosis makes sense for brackish or salty wells.

Is financing available?

Yes, through Synchrony and Wisetack, subject to credit approval. Checking your options doesn’t affect your credit.
