Under-Sink Drinking Water Filtration for Lakewood Ranch Kitchens
Even homes with a whole-house softener already installed often still notice a chlorine-like taste when they fill a glass straight from the kitchen tap. That’s chloramine, the disinfectant in Lakewood Ranch’s municipal supply, and it lingers in drinking water even after hardness has been dealt with. Homeowners in Esplanade at Azario and Sweetwater frequently ask us about this exact gap — great shower water, but a kitchen tap that still tastes off.

Lakewood Ranch reverse osmosis
Reverse osmosis drinking water

We have installed more than 90 water systems in Lakewood Ranch, from Del Webb to Star Farms. The same local tech who tests your water installs the system. No subcontractors.
Why RO Handles What a Whole-Home System Doesn’t
A whole-house softener and filtration system is built to protect your plumbing and appliances across the entire home. It’s not designed to strip dissolved solids and chlorine compounds down to the level you actually taste when drinking straight from the faucet. That’s a job for a dedicated under-sink reverse osmosis system, which pushes water through a multi-stage membrane to reduce TDS, chlorine, and chloramine right at the point you drink from.
The result is better-tasting, clearer water for drinking and cooking, without needing to run the whole house through the same level of filtration.
- Puronics Micromax 7000 — multi-stage under-sink RO for polished drinking water at the kitchen tap.
- Hydronex iGen — pairs whole-home filtration with a drinking-water stage for households that want both covered.
We’ve installed drinking-water and whole-home systems in 91+ Lakewood Ranch homes, including in Esplanade at Azario and Sweetwater — every unit installed by the same tech who tested your water in the first place.
What is actually in Lakewood Ranch’s drinking water
Your supply comes from Manatee County Utilities, disinfected with chloramine at 3.3 ppm. TTHM 47.1 ppb against an 80 limit, radium 226/228 at 0.69 and 0.78 against a limit of 5, and no PFAS detected across 29 compounds.
The thing worth understanding before you buy: a whole-home softener and an under-sink reverse osmosis unit are certified for almost entirely different lists. The softener handles hardness across the whole house. The RO handles the dissolved-solids side at one tap — lead, nitrate, arsenic, chromium-6, cysts, TDS. Neither covers the other’s list, which is why we fit both rather than pretend one does everything.
Certification is worth checking rather than trusting: reverse osmosis is NSF/ANSI 58, PFAS reduction is NSF/ANSI 53, and NSF/ANSI 372 means the parts are lead-free — it is not a lead removal claim, and quotes misuse it constantly.
Locally: the Ranch spans a decade and a half of construction standards, so what the builder left behind varies enormously between the older villages and the newest ones.
Figures are from Manatee County Utilities’s own published water quality report. Where a utility does not publish something, we say so rather than estimate it. The water test is free and carries no obligation.

What does a reverse osmosis drinking system remove?
RO reduces a wide range of dissolved contaminants — PFAS, lead, nitrate, fluoride, sodium, and the dissolved solids behind taste and odor. In Lakewood Ranch, hard Floridan Aquifer water makes better-tasting drinking water a common upgrade. It installs under the kitchen sink.
Is RO better than a fridge or pitcher filter in Lakewood Ranch?
A pitcher or fridge filter mainly improves taste; RO removes a far broader list down to a much smaller particle size and gives filtered water on demand from its own faucet. For Lakewood Ranch drinking water, RO is the step up.
Does reverse osmosis remove PFAS?
Yes — and we can point at a certification instead of just saying so. Our Micromax 8500 is certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA and PFOS reduction, which is a third-party tested claim rather than a marketing line. The Micromax 7000 is certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 58 and 372 but not for PFAS, so if PFAS is the reason you are calling, the 8500 is the one to ask about. One caveat: the EPA notes that current certifications do not yet show a filter reduces PFAS all the way down to the new federal limits. A free in-home test tells us what your Lakewood Ranch water is actually dealing with.
