Wimauma Drinking Water Filtration Systems
Wimauma is different from most of the surrounding area — much of the community relies on private wells rather than county water, which means iron staining, sulfur odor, and very hard water are common complaints rather than the chloramine taste seen elsewhere in south Hillsborough. Homes closer to newer developments on the county line may be on Tampa Bay Water instead, dealing with chloramine and 7-11 grain hardness. Either way, what comes out of a Wimauma tap rarely tastes clean on its own.

Getting Drinking Water Right, Whatever the Source
Well water in Wimauma often carries dissolved minerals and sulfur compounds that give tap water a distinct smell and taste, while county water in the area needs treatment specifically for chloramine, which resists standard carbon filters far more than plain chlorine. A multi-stage reverse osmosis system with fine membrane filtration reduces dissolved solids and taste-causing compounds regardless of which water source feeds the home, giving Wimauma families a consistent glass at the tap.
- Puronics Micromax 7000 — under-sink RO that reduces TDS and taste-causing compounds for noticeably cleaner, better-tasting drinking and cooking water.
- Puronics Defender iGen — whole-home conditioning that addresses hardness ahead of the RO system, protecting the membrane and improving water at every tap.
Wimauma is one of Hydrology’s strongest markets in south Hillsborough — we’ve installed 54-plus systems here, with a concentration in Creek Preserve, serving both well and county-water households.
What is actually in Wimauma’s drinking water
Your supply comes from Hillsborough County, South-Central, disinfected with chloramine at 3.8 ppm. Disinfection byproducts here are the lowest we see anywhere: TTHM 17.2 ppb and HAA5 12.1 ppb. We will not make that argument to you.
The thing worth understanding before you buy: a whole-home softener and an under-sink reverse osmosis unit are certified for almost entirely different lists. The softener handles hardness across the whole house. The RO handles the dissolved-solids side at one tap — lead, nitrate, arsenic, chromium-6, cysts, TDS. Neither covers the other’s list, which is why we fit both rather than pretend one does everything.
Certification is worth checking rather than trusting: reverse osmosis is NSF/ANSI 58, PFAS reduction is NSF/ANSI 53, and NSF/ANSI 372 means the parts are lead-free — it is not a lead removal claim, and quotes misuse it constantly.
Locally: Wimauma is half new subdivision and half well country, and the equipment is genuinely not the same for both.
Figures are from Hillsborough County, South-Central’s own published water quality report. Where a utility does not publish something, we say so rather than estimate it. The water test is free and carries no obligation.

What does a reverse osmosis drinking system remove?
RO reduces a wide range of dissolved contaminants — PFAS, lead, nitrate, fluoride, sodium, and the dissolved solids behind taste and odor. In Wimauma, hard, chlorinated Tampa Bay Water makes better-tasting drinking water a common upgrade. It installs under the kitchen sink.
Is RO better than a fridge or pitcher filter in Wimauma?
A pitcher or fridge filter mainly improves taste; RO removes a far broader list down to a much smaller particle size and gives filtered water on demand from its own faucet. For Wimauma drinking water, RO is the step up.
Does reverse osmosis remove PFAS?
Yes — and we can point at a certification instead of just saying so. Our Micromax 8500 is certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for PFOA and PFOS reduction, which is a third-party tested claim rather than a marketing line. The Micromax 7000 is certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 58 and 372 but not for PFAS, so if PFAS is the reason you are calling, the 8500 is the one to ask about. One caveat: the EPA notes that current certifications do not yet show a filter reduces PFAS all the way down to the new federal limits. A free in-home test tells us what your Wimauma water is actually dealing with.
