Flagship whole-home system

Puronics Defender 30C

Our flagship whole-home system — it softens your water and filters out chlorine and chloramine in one unit, so every tap in the house runs cleaner, tastes better and is easier on your skin, hair and appliances.

Puronics Defender 30C whole-home water system
  • Removes hardness — no more spots, scale or soap scum.
  • Catalytic carbon removes chlorine & chloramine taste and smell.
  • Metered backwash regenerates on actual use — saves salt & water.
  • 2,000,000-gallon certified capacity.
  • WQA Gold Seal certified · manufacturer lifetime warranty on defective parts.

The Defender 30C (the same platform as the Hydronex 30C / iGen C) does the two most important jobs at once: it softens your water so hardness stops scaling your water heater and spotting your dishes, and it filters chlorine and chloramine with catalytic carbon so your water tastes and smells clean throughout the whole home. One system, whole-house protection.

Why it’s superior

Built to do more — and last

🌡️

More catalytic carbon

A larger bed of catalytic carbon means longer contact time — and contact time is exactly what it takes to remove chloramine effectively. Most systems use a mixed bed; catalytic carbon does it better.

Metered backwash

It regenerates based on the water you actually use — not a fixed timer — so you use noticeably less salt and water over the life of the system.

🔢

2,000,000-gallon certified

Certified for two million gallons of capacity — this is a system built to run for years, not a disposable box.

🏆

WQA Gold Seal + lifetime warranty

Independently tested and certified by the Water Quality Association to perform as claimed with safe materials — backed by a manufacturer lifetime warranty on defective parts.

Your water vs. this system

What’s in SW Florida water — and what the Defender handles

Common in Manatee / SW Florida city water Puronics Defender 30C
Hardness (calcium & magnesium) ✓ Removed — ion-exchange resin
Chlorine ✓ Reduced — catalytic carbon
Chloramine ✓ Reduced — catalytic carbon (the extra contact time is what does it)
Chlorine taste & odor ✓ Improved throughout the whole home
Scale on water heater & fixtures ✓ Prevented once hardness is removed
Dissolved solids (TDS) at the drinking tap Add Micromax RO at the kitchen sink
PFAS, lead, arsenic (drinking water) Micromax 8500 RO — certified for these

The Defender 30C protects your whole home (hardness + chlorine/chloramine). For the drinking tap, we pair it with a Micromax reverse-osmosis system — the two together cover everything. We’ll show you exactly what’s in your water at your free in-home test.

Independently certified — and you can check it yourself

Puronics systems are tested and certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA Gold Seal) and to NSF/ANSI standards. That means an independent lab — not us — verified what these systems reduce. You can look up any manufacturer and model in the WQA’s public database. Not every system on the market can show you that.

Catalytic carbon vs. standard activated carbon

The simple version: Most whole-home systems use standard activated carbon, which does a fine job on chlorine but barely touches chloramine — the longer-lasting disinfectant many Florida utilities now use. The Defender 30C uses catalytic carbon, which is specially treated to break chloramine down, plus more of it.

For the researchers: Standard activated carbon removes chlorine by adsorption, but chloramine is far more stable and passes through. Catalytic carbon’s surface is processed to catalyze the chemical breakdown of chloramine into components the bed can capture — and that reaction needs contact time, which is exactly why our beds carry more media and are sized larger. If your city has switched to chloramine, that difference is the whole ballgame.

Common questions

What’s the difference between catalytic carbon and regular activated carbon?
Standard activated carbon handles chlorine but barely reduces chloramine. Catalytic carbon is treated to break chloramine down and needs more contact time — so the Defender carries more of it. If your utility uses chloramine, this is the difference that matters.
Is the Defender 30C actually certified?
Yes — it carries the WQA Gold Seal and is certified for a 2,000,000-gallon capacity. We’re a WQA/FWQA member company and we’ll show you the certification; ask a competitor to show you the same.
How is this different from a softener from a big-box store?
Media volume, certified capacity, catalytic carbon, a metered demand-initiated valve, and a lifetime warranty on defective parts — installed and serviced by a local team, not a boxed unit you install yourself. We size it to your actual water after a free test.
What’s the warranty?
The Defender 30C carries a lifetime warranty on defective parts. Because we’re local, service and support come from the same team that installed it.
What does a whole-home system cost?
It depends on your water and home size, which is why we start with a free in-home test. We offer financing with convenient monthly payments — just ask at your test.
Do I need a sediment pre-filter with the Defender?
Usually not. The Defender backwashes and cleans itself automatically — flushing sediment and refreshing the media on a set cycle — so a separate sediment pre-filter is typically redundant. A pre-filter just adds another thing to buy and change, more maintenance, and a spot that can clog and restrict flow. We add pre-filtration only when your water genuinely calls for it, not as a default. If you’re comparing two identical systems and one adds a pre-filter, it’s fair to ask why it’s needed.

Highly recommend this company and look forward to many years of clean, soft and healthy water!”

“Wow I can definitely feel a difference in my hair, skin, and when I wash my hands. I knew getting a water softener was a priority and I’m so glad I decided to go with Hydrology. I’m thoroughly impressed with the company and the product!”

“I cannot say enough amazing things about this company and system! We had three companies come out and Hydrology stood out on every level. This company is very professional, answered every question we had and even gave us time to think without “pressuring” us to buy! Our water is fabulous the taste and feeling it leaves on skin I am wondering how I have went so long without this system! ”
