What the free test covers
Hardness (grains per gallon), chlorine and chloramine, iron, and the aesthetics you actually notice — right there at your sink, with a real local tech, not a mail-in kit.
What we test for in Sarasota, and why
City of Sarasota publishes an annual report, and it is a starting point rather than an answer. It tells you what left the plant, disinfected with free chlorine — no chloramine, at softened at the plant, so we measure at your tap. It does not tell you what arrives at your tap after the distribution system and your own plumbing have had a turn.
Because it is free chlorine rather than chloramine, a plain GAC filter does the job here and catalytic carbon earns nothing.
So we test at your kitchen sink: hardness, so the softener is sized to a real number rather than a county average; the disinfectant residual, because it decides which carbon and how much; iron and pH where they matter; and anything the report leaves out. Several utilities on our map do not publish hardness at all, and none of them test for strontium — those are gaps we fill rather than gloss over. The test is free and it takes about twenty minutes.
Locally: downtown and the older neighborhoods often mean a tight side-yard or a utility closet rather than a garage, and we check the main size on the pre-war homes before quoting.
Figures are from City of Sarasota’s own published water quality report. Where a utility does not publish something, we say so rather than estimate it. The water test is free and carries no obligation.

Why testing beats guessing
Sarasota’s water varies by address — City of Sarasota (free chlorine) vs Sarasota County (chloramine, about 7 grains). A test tells us exactly what your home needs instead of a one-size box.
What happens next
If you need something, we recommend only what your water actually calls for. If you don’t, we’ll tell you that too — no pressure, ever.

“I cannot say enough amazing things about this company and system! We had three companies come out and Hydrology stood out on every level.”
“We’ve had our system now a month and absolutely love it. My wife is a hair beautician with over 30 years of experience and definitely can tell the difference with the water.”
“Wow, I can definitely feel a difference in my hair, skin, and when I wash my hands. I knew getting a water softener was a priority and I’m so glad I decided to go with Hydrology.”

Is the water test really free? +
Yes — a real local tech comes to your home, tests on the spot, and explains what your water needs. No cost, no obligation.
What does the test cover? +
Hardness, chlorine/chloramine, iron and the aesthetic issues you notice (taste, smell, spotting). For wells we look at sulfur, iron and more.
How long does it take? +
Usually about 30 minutes, and you get plain-English answers on the spot.
Do you test well water too? +
Yes — well testing is important because iron, sulfur, bacteria and pH shift over time. UF/IFAS recommends testing wells yearly.
Will you pressure me to buy? +
No. If your water is fine, we’ll say so. If it needs help, we recommend only what it actually calls for.
