What that means for a system in Riverview

How hard is Riverview water?
Hillsborough County does not publish a hardness figure for the South-Central system, so anyone who quotes you one is estimating. We measure it at your tap and size from that.
Does Riverview water have chloramine in it?
Yes. The South-Central system reports chloramine at 3.8 ppm, range 0.03 to 6.8, against a federal maximum of 4.0. Carbon goes ahead of the softener — partly for the chloramine itself, partly because chlorine oxidises softener resin and shortens its life.
I heard there was an E. coli notice. What happened?
In August 2025 Hillsborough County reported an E. coli MCL violation on this system: two positive samples out of more than 2,500 bacteriological tests, with corrective action completed. It is in the county’s own report. Two positives out of thousands is not a crisis and we will not sell it as one — but you should hear it from your water company rather than find it yourself.
