What that means for a system in Ruskin

How hard is Ruskin water?
Hillsborough County does not publish a hardness figure for the South-Central system, so anyone who quotes you one is estimating. We measure it at your tap and size from that.
Does Ruskin water have chloramine in it?
Yes. The South-Central system reports chloramine at 3.8 ppm, range 0.03 to 6.8, against a federal maximum of 4.0. Carbon goes ahead of the softener — partly for the chloramine itself, partly because chlorine oxidises softener resin and shortens its life.
Am I on city water or a well in Ruskin?
Worth checking before anyone quotes you, because the two are completely different builds. On county water you are dealing with chloramine at 3.8 ppm and whatever the hardness turns out to be. On a well you may be dealing with iron, sulfur or bacteria, and the treatment order matters more than the equipment brand — a softener installed in front of an iron problem can foul its resin in a season.
