A media change, two bags of salt and a new lid
This Apollo Beach home has a Puronics Hydronex we installed outside in 2023. Its bacteriostatic media is due for a change every 112,000 gallons, so that was the visit.
When we opened it up, the brine tank had no salt in it and was holding water, most likely rain getting in. We drained the brine tank, changed the media, added a new upper basket at no charge, put in two bags of salt, fitted a new brine tank lid and set the system to regenerate that day.
An outdoor brine tank needs a lid that closes tight. If you find water standing in yours, or the lid is cracked or missing, give us a call. Check the salt about every three months, or let us deliver it. Keeping media changes and salt on schedule is what Platinum Care is for.

What’s really in your Apollo Beach water
Here’s the breakdown of Apollo Beach tap water — and what it means for the system you actually need.
- Supply: Hillsborough County Public Utilities, drawn largely from the regional system (Tampa Bay Water)
- Disinfection: chloramine (chlorine + ammonia), with occasional free-chlorine flushes
- Hardness: varies across the county — we test your exact number free, on-site
- PFAS: detected in parts of Hillsborough County during recent federal (UCMR5) testing; levels vary by system, and utilities have until 2029 to meet the new limit
- Chloramine needs more contact time than plain chlorine — so catalytic carbon is the right filter, not the mixed-bed carbon most companies install.
- Hardness is handled by a properly sized water softener, sized to your test.
- PFAS comes out with reverse osmosis at the tap — a softener does not remove it.
County-wide averages aren’t your tap. We test your Apollo Beach water free, on-site, and tell you exactly what’s in it before recommending anything.

Who provides Apollo Beach’s water?
Apollo Beach is served by Hillsborough County Public Utilities (a Tampa Bay Water member), and some homes are on private wells.
Is Apollo Beach water hard?
Yes — regional water here runs hard. A softener stops the scale and spotting, and carbon or RO handles the chlorine taste.
Do you service Apollo Beach?
Yes — we’ve installed 20+ systems in Apollo Beach, and we offer a free in-home water test with a same-day reply.
Why is my water softener not working in Apollo Beach?
Common causes are a salt bridge in the brine tank, a fouled resin bed, a stuck valve, or settings lost after a power outage — if spots and scale come back, that’s the sign. Our own techs diagnose and repair softeners and filtration systems throughout Apollo Beach and the Suncoast. Call or text 941-266-8991.
How long does a water softener installation take in Apollo Beach?
A typical install in Apollo Beach runs a few hours the same day, and our own tech does it — the person who tests your water is the one who sets up the system, no subcontractor handoff. For any job that needs a permit, we bring in the licensed plumber we work with.
Do you deliver water softener salt in Apollo Beach?
Yes — we offer salt delivery in Apollo Beach so you don’t have to buy, haul, and lift 40-lb bags yourself. It’s a convenient add-on for busy or larger households. Ask when you book your free in-home water test.
