A 55+ community, and the questions that come with it
There are two Del Webb communities in Lakewood Ranch. Del Webb Lakewood Ranch has been building since 2015 — about 1,300 homes, gated, 55 and over. Del Webb Catalina is the newer one, also 55+ and gated, with homes delivering now.
The questions we hear most in Del Webb aren’t about hardness — everyone can see the spots. They’re about sodium and salt bags. A softener adds a small amount of sodium, and reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink takes most of it back out of what you drink; some softeners can also run on potassium chloride. And nobody wants to haul 40-pound bags of salt into the garage, which is why Platinum Care includes salt delivery.
We’ve put in 11 systems right here in Del Webb — and the same local tech who tests your water does the install.
Built for Del Webb
As a 55+ community, Del Webb homeowners want water that’s low-maintenance and easy on skin, appliances and the budget — softening plus catalytic-carbon filtration for the chloramine, sized to your home. We install it cleanly and service it locally.

The County Water Under Del Webb—and Why New Construction Doesn’t Escape It
Del Webb at Lakewood Ranch gets its drinking water from Manatee County Utilities: a blend of Lake Manatee reservoir water and groundwater from the Floridan Aquifer. (Braden River Utilities handles irrigation water in Lakewood Ranch, not drinking water.) The groundwater carries minerals picked up from limestone, the county’s 2025 report puts hardness at 106–279 mg/L, up to about 16 grains per gallon, and the water is disinfected with chloramine for distribution. It’s a common assumption that a brand-new community built in the last several years should be insulated from water problems that plague older homes. In practice, the water table under Del Webb hasn’t changed because the houses are new—every home here, regardless of build year, is drawing from the same hard, chloraminated municipal supply. New construction actually tends to show the effects faster: today’s tankless water heaters run hotter and concentrate scale on a compact heat exchanger instead of spreading it across a large tank, frameless glass shower enclosures common in newer builds show mineral spotting with almost no tolerance, and higher-efficiency fixtures throughout an active-adult home have tighter internal tolerances than the older fixtures they replaced.
How Each System Protects a Newer Del Webb Home
Because a new Del Webb home represents a real investment in finish quality—upgraded showers, tankless water heating, higher-end appliances—it’s worth protecting that investment with equipment matched to what’s actually coming through the pipes.
Softening (Puronics Defender iGen). Ion-exchange softening removes the calcium and magnesium responsible for scale before it ever reaches a fixture, which is what keeps a tankless heater’s heat exchanger clear, protects glass shower enclosures from permanent etching, and reduces the workload on a dishwasher and washing machine over the life of the home.
Whole-home chloramine filtration. Manatee County’s chloramine is chemically bonded to resist breaking down across the distribution system, which also means it resists breaking down in an ordinary carbon filter. Our whole-home systems use catalytic carbon rated for roughly 2,000,000 gallons—media specifically manufactured to break that chlorine-ammonia bond—so the chlorine-pool smell is gone at every shower and tap in the house, not just wherever a pitcher filter happens to sit.
Drinking water (Puronics Micromax 7000). For water headed into a glass, coffee maker, or cooking pot, an under-sink reverse osmosis system adds a dedicated, finer stage of filtration built specifically for drinking water. Many Del Webb homeowners combine softening and whole-home filtration into a single Hydronex iGen system, handling both jobs from one footprint in the garage.
The Comfort Difference for Active-Adult Homeowners
For a community built around comfort and low-maintenance living, water quality shows up in daily routine more than most homeowners expect. Soft water lathers soap and shampoo more fully instead of fighting mineral content, which a lot of residents notice as less filmy, less tight-feeling skin and softer-feeling hair after a shower. It also means less scrubbing to keep faucets, glass, and tile free of the chalky buildup hard water leaves behind—a real consideration in a home designed for easier upkeep. Laundry comes out of the wash brighter and softer to the touch, since soft water lets detergent do its job fully instead of leaving mineral residue behind in the fibers. This is about comfort and feel, not a change to the water’s disinfection or treatment status—it’s the day-to-day experience of the water in the home matching the comfort the rest of the community was built around.
What the Free In-Home Water Test Checks
Rather than relying on a neighborhood average, a Hydrology tech comes to your specific Del Webb home and tests your actual tap water on the spot—hardness, chlorine/chloramine level, and pH—then walks the house with you to point out where scale and mineral buildup are already showing on fixtures, showerheads, and appliances. You get plain numbers and a straightforward explanation of what they mean for your home, with no obligation to purchase anything. If your situation doesn’t call for a full system, we’ll say so directly.
0% Financing for Del Webb Homeowners
A whole-home softener or filtration system is a meaningful addition to a new home, and we don’t expect homeowners to pay for it all at once. Hydrology offers 0% financing through Synchrony and Wisetack, so Del Webb residents can get the right system installed now, sized to what the free test actually shows their home needs, and pay it down over time.
11+ Systems Installed in Del Webb—Local Proof
We’ve already installed 11+ systems for homeowners inside Del Webb at Lakewood Ranch, and that number keeps growing as more of the community reaches the age where hard water and chloramine start showing up on fixtures. Every one of those installs was handled start to finish by our own techs—not a subcontractor—using Puronics equipment that carries the WQA Gold Seal and is manufactured by Franklin Electric, a publicly traded company, with the manufacturer’s warranty serviced locally by the same team that did the install. Being family-owned and firefighter-founded means the standard on every job is the same one that job history demands: show up, do clean work, and stand behind it.

What hard water does to a home: the Battelle study →
Is softened water OK on a low-sodium diet?
A softener adds roughly 7.5 mg of sodium per quart for each grain it removes. Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink removes most of it from the water you drink and cook with. Ask your doctor what’s right for you, and ask us about potassium chloride.
Can you deliver the salt?
Yes. Platinum Care includes quarterly salt delivery, an annual service visit and a free service call — so you never lift a salt bag.
Do you work in Del Webb Catalina too?
Yes — both Del Webb communities. Newer homes are the easiest time to set up a system, before scale has a chance to build up in the water heater and fixtures.
