A gated golf community on hard county water
Lakewood National is Lennar’s gated golf community north of State Road 70, with 36 holes and golf included in the membership. Most homes are only a few years old, which makes it a straightforward place to put in a system.
The water is Manatee County’s: 6 to 16 grains hard with chloramine. We’ve installed here, and the typical Lakewood National setup is a softener with carbon in front of it in the garage and reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink — sized to a test at your faucet, not a county average.
We’ve installed in Lakewood National, and the same local tech who tests your water does the install.
Why neighbors in Lakewood National choose Hydrology
Our quality and workmanship is the difference — the plumbing is clean and careful, and we take the extra time to do it right. The equipment is Puronics, backed by a manufacturer warranty from publicly traded Franklin Electric and serviced locally by us. If a job needs a permit, we bring in the licensed plumber we work with.
What’s in the water in Lakewood National
Lakewood National is on Manatee County water, like most of Lakewood Ranch. Your bill will say Manatee County Utilities. Here’s what the county reports:
- Source: Lake Manatee reservoir water blended with Floridan aquifer groundwater
- Hardness: 106–279 mg/L in the county’s 2025 report, up to about 16 grains per gallon
- Disinfection: chloramine (chlorine + ammonia), about 3.3 ppm
- PFAS: all 29 compounds below the lab’s reporting level in the county’s 2024 UCMR5 testing
County averages are a starting point, not your tap. Hardness and taste vary house to house, so we measure your water free before recommending anything.
Condos, coach homes and single-family homes around 36 holes
Lakewood National is a gated Lennar golf community in the 34211 zip code. The club has two 18-hole courses designed by Arnold Palmer, a clubhouse, a fitness center, clay tennis courts, a lagoon-style pool and a spa. Housing runs from terrace and veranda condos to coach homes and single-family homes, most of it built since 2017.
We install whole-home systems in all three, condos included. What changes is where the equipment goes. A single-family home or a coach home usually takes it in the garage, where the water line comes in. In a condo we look at where the unit’s water line comes in and what the association asks for, then fit the equipment to that space. Under-sink reverse osmosis works in any unit, and a tankless RO fits where the cabinet is small.
Many owners here are part-year residents. A metered softener suits that, because it regenerates by gallons used and sits idle while the home is empty. For what to do on your first day back, see our snowbird checklist for your softener and RO.
How each system protects a Lakewood National home
Softening. Ion-exchange softening takes calcium and magnesium out before they reach a fixture. That keeps scale off the water heater, spots off shower glass and film out of the dishwasher.
Catalytic carbon for chloramine. Chloramine is made to last through miles of pipe, so standard carbon barely touches it. Catalytic carbon breaks the chlorine-ammonia bond and reduces the pool smell at every shower and tap. Putting it ahead of the softener also protects the resin. See catalytic carbon vs. standard carbon.
Drinking water. An under-sink reverse osmosis system like the Puronics Micromax 7000 adds a finer stage for drinking and cooking water, and reduces PFAS, lead, arsenic and TDS.
Many homes here do the softening and the chloramine filtration in one tank, a Puronics Hydronex iGen C or our value-built Hydrology Essentials, so it takes up one corner of the garage.
What the free in-home water test checks
A Hydrology tech comes to your Lakewood National home and tests your tap on the spot: hardness, chlorine and chloramine, pH and TDS. We look at where the water line comes in, the water heater and the fixtures, then give you plain numbers and a straight recommendation. If your home doesn’t need a full system, we’ll tell you. There’s no charge and no obligation.

What hard water does to a home: the Battelle study →
Is Lakewood National water hard?
Yes — Manatee County’s 2025 report puts hardness at 106–279 mg/L, about 6 to 16 grains.
Where does the softener go?
In the garage, near where the main line comes in. The brine tank sits beside it.
Can you add RO to the refrigerator?
Yes. For a refrigerator line we usually recommend a tankless RO — its built-in pump keeps the pressure up, where a tank system can run slow at the dispenser.
Can I get a water softener in a Lakewood National condo?
Yes. We have whole-home equipment in Lakewood National condos. During the free water test we look at where your unit’s water line comes in and what the association asks for, and fit the system to that space.
What should seasonal owners do with a softener when they leave?
Leave it plugged in so it keeps its settings. A metered softener won’t regenerate while no water is used. When you return, check the salt and run one manual regeneration.
Do you deliver softener salt in Lakewood National?
Yes. We deliver salt across Lakewood Ranch, so you don’t have to haul 40-lb bags. Ask when you book your free water test.
Does Lakewood National water have chloramine?
Yes. Manatee County disinfects with chloramine, about 3.3 ppm in its 2025 report. Catalytic carbon is what reduces it.
