Lakewood Ranch Country Club
Twenty-plus years of hard water on the original equipment
Lakewood Ranch Country Club is the gated golf community around the Arnold Palmer course, developed from the mid-1990s — with sections like Canterbury, The Dominion and Whitemarsh, and many homes built in the early 2000s by John Cannon, Neal and Peregrine.
Homes that age are where softeners reach the end of the line. A lot of our Country Club calls are an original system that’s stopped regenerating, is using too much salt, or is sending salty water to the drain. We’ll try the repair first; when the valve or resin is spent, we’ll show you. The water is Manatee County’s — 6 to 16 grains hard with chloramine, which is hard on old resin that never had carbon in front of it.
We’ve installed in Lakewood Ranch Country Club, and the same local tech who tests your water does the install.

A Defender 30C, installed outside with the valve covered
In September 2026 we installed a Puronics Defender 30C whole-home system in Lakewood Ranch Country Club. The home was built in 2000 and runs on Manatee County water, which is 6 to 16 grains hard and treated with chloramine.
The Defender 30C handles both in one tank: softening resin for the hardness and catalytic carbon for the chloramine. This one sits outside, so the control valve went under a cover. We don’t leave equipment outside without one.
We tied it into the main line, filled the brine tank with salt and started it up before we left.

What hard water does to a home: the Battelle study →
How long does a softener last?
It depends on the water and whether there’s carbon in front of it. Chlorine and chloramine break down softener resin over time, which is why older systems without carbon wear out sooner.
Can you rebuild my existing unit?
Often. We replace seals, spacers and other valve parts first. If it still won’t regenerate, a new system is the better use of your money.
Do you service systems you didn’t install?
Yes — most brands and valves, including Fleck and Clack.
